A Half-Inch Triumph

A previous review on this site praised the efforts of McCarthy Griffin in writing the perfect and most seriously unique werewolf story in her novel, Monster Story. In this review her debut novel (which really should have been covered first, but what can I say - I read 'em in the order that seems best to me, eh?), Half-Inch, tells a quite different type of "monster story".

Living all her life in the small, backwoods town where she was born and raised, Pammy Sue married the boy everyone always knew she would. But married life with Bobby quickly turned out to be more than Pammy bargained for and less than she had always dreamed for her life. Not only did her "sweetheart" turn out to be a drunk, but he also proved his constant "manhood" by abusing his wife in every way imaginable. Oh, and did I mention how often he slunk around with every loose bar slut that happened to step in front of him?

Utilizing her own imagination, which for the better part of a decade has worked to perfect the details of the "perfect murder", Pammy Sue finally begins to set the stage in order to put her plan in action, knowing that if she doesn't get rid of her husband soon in a way that ensures he will never hurt her again, the SOB will eventually end up killing her, instead, and in a much more brutal manner than she has planned for him.

Inch-by-inch Pammy begins to carve out her plans, as well as the ground on the property where she has lived ever since getting married to Bobby. Realizing her plan isn't an easy task, in any manner, finally she finds the stage set for the performance of her lifetime. Now all she has to do is bring all the players together and ring down the final curtain in what has become a serious tragedy fit for the Bard of Avalon himself.

If your stomach is squeamish or you cannot stand violence against men (heh), then perhaps Half-Inch is not the story for you. If, however, reading a well-crafted tale of revenge and triumph is more to your liking, then download your copy of McCarty Griffin's imaginative novella and begin devouring page after page of exciting and well-plotted real-life drama that could one day find it's way onto the front page of the daily newspaper (Even if it does eventually get published only online with the decline of print newspapers).

Half-Inch, by McCarty Griffin is a spell-binding, mesmerizing story of our times and worth the read.
